This copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine, now what?
My colleague came to me the other day asking why his laptop was telling him that his copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine. This was new to me, so I asked him to bring his laptop over so I can take close look. Sure enough, the following window pops up every time he opened Word.
Clicking Learn More opens a web page that explains a little bit more why it happens but offers no good. You basically only have two choices, either buy one from their online store or uninstall it from your computer. If you are using a pirate or counterfeit copy of Office, you should stop reading and do either of these two options Microsoft suggests. However,
The problem is, this is a genuine copy of Microsoft Office but is only used on a computer that is not physically sitting in the office. What they suggest in the case like this is to ask system administrator, which is me in this case. But I didn’t know how to fix it.
After digging a little bit further, it appears that this kind of notification was caused a recent Windows update, named Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810), which provide periodic reminders to help you take the appropriate action if your copy of Office doesn’t pass the genuine validation.
According to the KB, this update cannot be uninstalled once it’s installed, and there is no option to temporarily stop the notification messages. It appears that this is just a notification application that won’t prevent you from using the Office. You can still use your copy of Microsoft Office, and you can still get the updates from Microsoft. Nothing really has been changed, except that the annoying notification message is now stick on your office toolbar quite firmly.
However, if you are the victim of this update like my colleague and are using the legit copy of Microsoft Office, you can try one of the 5 hacks to disable or remove this OGAN first, and an automated solution to remove OGA second to see if you are lucky enough getting rid of this notification permanently from your computer.
You can try looking into the Control Panel -> Remove applications (Click Show Updates) find the update and remove it.
Good try @TaeOnai, but unfortunately, because you won’t be able to uninstall it you won’t see it listed in the control panel. Dang.
Cheers.
Thank you so much
I have downloaded OGA Remover batch file and run as administrator. At the end I change the system date and open the office 2007 (word) I didn’t get OGA Notification again.
OGA remover bat file is placed
